UK Prime Minister David Cameron. A photo from his recent visit to Liverpool

Arriving on his helicopter and leaving soon after - there was only a short window to photograph David Cameron on his recent visit to Liverpool. With the fastest growing economy outside of London - Liverpool is the place to be!

Photos from One Park West Show Apartments - a sneak preview.

Described as being the "jewel in the duke's crown" the final phase of Liverpool One is being implemented. These are the One Park West 17 storey apartments overlooking the Mersey River. I was there for the grand opening by the Duke of Westminster a few months back. Now the apartments are on the market and are being snapped up by savvy Liverpudlians and investors further afield. I was there on Thursday to take a few promotional shots for their new marketing collateral. So, hot off the press, here's a sneak preview inside... one, park, west, photography, liverpool, events, commercial, portrait, photos, photographer, chester, manchester, apartments, wirral, ant, clausen, photographer

Some photos from the recent Barclays branch opening - Hull.

One of the things i'm lovin about photography here in the North West is it's taking me to a few new places I might not otherwise see. Hull for example. Barclays have recently opened a new branch here, located centrally in the town square. Here's a few photos of the people that both make up the town and visited the new branch that day. I was working this job courtesy of Steve Stills photography who is based in London.barclays-14 [nggallery id=16]

Another great networking event with the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. Held at the cool Osqa restaurant bar on Roscoe Street - there was lunch laid on, a bit of speed-networking and presentations by local business people. Next event will be when the tennis comes to town.

A Photo from New Zealand...

Think i'm over the jet-lag now, so with a bit of luck the blog will start to roll again. Here's one of my favourite shots from my recent trip back home to New Zealand. Taken at sunrise on a beach north of where I grew up - I guess it's the subtle moody tones of the images I like. Last year I was chasing big dramatic landscapes. This year, so far, i'm enjoying more of a toned-down feel. mangawhai-1 To check out some more of my print images - please click here: ant clausen prints

HOT models night at Chaya...

ant_6143Hmmmmmmmm scorchin' even... let's not beat around the bush... The inaugural "red carpet" event took place on Thursday "slap bang" in the action district of Liverpool. Many pretty people adorned both the bar and the cat walk for an evening of 'decadence delirium' sure to please any self-respecting young, hip, wannabe "be-seen-type" individual. The best thing about it is there'll be an exclusive night on the last Thursday of every month... so everybody can grab a slice of the action. The lads behind the magic are a couple of NYC entrepreneurs here in liverpool looking to raise the bar in everything that is "late night - don't tell the mrs." Here's the shots from the night - click here: models night chaya Churrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a young star on the rise - Becci's Model Portfolio, Liverpool.

And I had the pleasure of photographing Becci for her model portfolio in Liverpool on the weekend. This was her first ever photo shoot. I think the results speak for themselves... keep an eye out for this young model on the rise... becci_model-2

The Mystery Tipper Hits Liverpool

tipper-1Coming from a marketing background - I always appreciate a good campaign - and this one was a cracker! Red C Marketing from Manchester came up with the mystery tipper campaign to incentivise taxi drivers who wore their sticker on their cabs.

And today a lucky Liverpool cabbie's ship came in.

After the cheque was presented to a rather happy cab-driver, we drove round Liverpool landmarks to take a few photographs.

Snow on the rooftops of Liverpool...

snow-1One of the bonuses of living in the top floor of an apartment is that you can look out the window and immediately see Liverpool from a fresh new angle... you can then poke your camera out the window and take a photograph! So when it was icy cold yesterday morning... that's what I did. It was amazing seeing Liverpool blanketed in a fresh coat of snow. I then rode my pushbike down to Sefton Park and grabbed a couple of quick shots. Will be uploading a few more photographs shortly. sefton-1

The Bloggers Block..

An interesting theory - what happens when a "blogger" gets a bit too busy and perhaps doesn't have time to add the attention and detail needed to keep a blog ticking along. I imagine a similar occurrence when a writer gets writer's block and they stop writing for a while until they find inspiration from somewhere... and start writing again. I guess one of the bonuses of writing a photography blog is that you can always let the photos do the talking. And that's definitely a bonus, and in a lot of ways - that's how it should be. So today in "show and tell"..without further adieu... here's one of my favourite shots from the past year, as it embraces everything I stand for. Firstly you have to have healthy respect for the ocean before you go out into big surf. You have to have a sense of adventure and daring to take on a big wave and ride it with grace and you have to enjoy the lifestyle that goes along with everything to do with "our mother ocean"3d-5-5

Flaring Cocktails at Chameleon...

Back again to photograph the hottest new bar in Liverpool. This time the focus is on the cocktails. "Flaring" which is the bartending equivalent of juggling - was on display and definitely a challenge in low light. I opted to shoot with available light to show movement in the bottles/shakers etc and hope the bartenders weren't dancing around too much. Was quite happy with the results (see photos below)I definitely recommend checking the bar out at some point - will be back in there when they've got some live acts playing. 2008 - ummm where did it go?

Another year snuck by... but I have to say 2008 has been a bit of a corker (Antipodean expression for bloody good!) Even though i'm a bit slow on the uptake, writing my 2008-retrospective blog in early Jan... but hey... i've been hangin in North Wales in a farm house in the middle of nowhere... with no laptop, no internet and no mobile phone coverage. It was seriously like going back in time, but I believe I was all the better for it, for I had my camera bag with a plethora of memory cards and spare batteries... 2008 has perhaps been slightly less conventional than the average year pour moi.

- Moving up to Liverpool to live.

- Finally making the big call and deciding to chase my dream of being a full-time photographer

- Realising that i've finally found (verging on cheesy Hollywood'isms here) my destiny as far as a career is concerned. The incredible diversity you get from all types of photography, means there's never a dull moment and always something unique and creative to strive for. No more "working for the man" in a dull office job. Oh well, i'm sure I will (if I haven't already) get over it!

And what a great little place Liverpool is. It's seriously been the perfect place for me to pluck up the courage, and chase my photographic dreams. The people i've met in 2008 have been nothing short of inspirational. Liverpudlians are direct and to the point, much like Antipodeans, and you then have the ability to win respect that much quicker when the usual "bs" is taken out of the equation.

Everywhere you turn there's people willing to help, or simply have a yarn. Even the homeless people have a good laugh! The networks available to start up businesses have been invaluable also. I joined the BNI group a couple of months back, and that's been fantastic as you end up forging friendships with people in the same boat as you. More recently joining the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce has meant that I got to meet and photograph the Lord Mayor over a cup of tea. Definitely an English highlight!

I've met amazing people, not because i've had to, but because starting up your own business forces you out of your comfort zone and opens up possibilities that I never would have experienced getting lost in the ratrace.

All in all, an absolute bloody pearler. I could possibly 'rabbit on' for much longer with random thoughts... but as i'm still new to this whole blog game. I'm going to save it for a rainy day (soon then!)

Stay tuned for many more photographic ramblings in 2009. For it's shaping up to be the best year yet. With visions, goals and dreams to be achieved... it's certainly going to be a trip... feel free to come along for the ride!

Here's my first sunset shot of 2009. Taken at Plas y Brenin in Snowdonia, the air temp was below zero and the lake was well frozen over...

A ramble round North Wales...

Jack Frost has come out to play in this recent series of photographs taken in North Wales. The first few are from Llyn Gwynant in Snowdonia. It was around 3pm and we knew we'd have to make the 'ramble' rather brisk to make it round the lake before dark. The second set are taken around the Denbigh/Conwy area on Boxing Day. [nggallery id=4]
