So it was only fitting that our photoshoot was in Downtown Auckland at the new Wynyard Quarter. What was formerly industrial dock wasteland has now been transformed into a very cool urban playground.

With gorgeous morning light there were loads of nice photo opportunities to be had.

I'm always a bit of a sucker for a nicely back-lit silhouette. It just brings a whole new evocative mood to a shot. These particular ones we taken from a low angle to bring the old tramtracks into the shot too.

With the first two weeks of my New Zealand working holiday coming to a close - it's been pretty awesome fun working in my old stomping ground. We're off to Coromandel tomorrow for a week - and due to lots of requests i'm going to be doing another week of portrait shoots when I get back.

The Auckland City Skyline - some photos from the other night...

When i'm not photographing portraits out here in New Zealand - i'm exploring the coastline, shooting sunrises with the Nikon D800. So far the camera has been performing flawlessly. The detail from the 36 megapixel sensor is quite incredible. I was interested to see how it would perform at night also with city lights and dark skies often pushing digital cameras to their limits. Once again it allowed me to capture detail I have never seen before. I don't think i've photographed any skylines of major cities round the world (yes you may argue that Auckland might not be the most major city) - where you can so clearly see the stars in the sky above.

So nice to be home!

Here's a few quick portraits of my nieces and nephews. Always love getting updated shots - and always so interesting to see how much their faces have changed.

I have lots of commissioned portrait shoots coming up in the next couple of weeks - I really hope the weather comes good!

Next blog post will be some portraits of older faces - so stay tuned!
