Was delighted to be invited to photograph the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner again for the third year running. The return to the spectacular Anglican Cathedral made my job a lot easier with such a stunning backdrop. I had to remind myself that there were well turned-out Liverpool businesspeople in the frame also! The introductory speech was from the Earl of Derby, followed by Chamber chairman Jack Stopforth. The key note speaker was Charlotte Hogg – head of retail division – Santander. As a sponsor of formula one racing – I soon worked out why there was a Formula One racing car in the nave of the church! They all had positive messages for the future of Liverpool and the Northwest. The evening was bought to a close nicely with 80′s group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
Anyway – enough banter – here’s some photos from the night…

As I arrived to shoot the Gok Wan fashion roadshow event – I wondered if i’ve mistakenly got the wrong event…
Groups of screaming girls (and boys) crying helplessly at the thought of seeing their iconic fashion hero – Gok Wan. I have to admit I did actually ask some of the girls why they were screaming. I was completely unaware of the hysteria surrounding this modern day fashion idol.
But sure enough – a fleeting glimpse from Gok from behind the stage was enough to prove that this wasn’t another one of my Friday afternoon daydreams.
The crowd went absolutely nuts. The show ensued. The rest is history. Here’s some photos.

At the end of the day – this is what it all comes down to… You. The people.
This was my third year as the official photographer of the Mathew Street Festival. Each year I try to capture something a little bit different.
This year I was given a nice open brief – a “freedom to roam” if you will. Previous years I have been given long lists of bands that need to be ticked off and i’ve found myself racing between stages and focusing mostly on the acts themselves. This year I had more of a chance to stop and look around me. The amount of people who make a big effort is astounding. People getting dressed up in all sorts of fancy garb – reminds me of the heady days of Big Day Out’s in New Zealand. It was always a time to grab the face paint and don a whig!
But Liverpudlians are unique in their own right. They’re a special bunch, these Scousers – and this selection of photos goes out to you!

Oh, also – the ladies in the ambulance outfits dancing… they are, um, actual paramedics! Rock on ladies…

Photo-wise – might as well start from the top! First band on the bill was Positive Impact. Quite possibly the perfect band for a festival like Mathew Street. Instantly bringing a soulful groove to the streets, they had the Liverpool crowd dancing away from the outset. Numerous incarnations of famous motown artists later, it turned into a mass sing-a-long. Very cool to see!
Oh, and last shot – if a little random – I spotted Alice Cooper on the way to the next stage. You just gotta love this festival. More photos to come…

More photos to come a bit later on – just gotta jet off for a quick job at Liverpool One – so stay tuned!

This was one of the last shots taken today… Was definitely a good call of ‘Amy Winehouse’ to jump down and get intimate with the lovely Liverpool crowd!
Got plenty of shots to go through from the past couple of days. Stay tuned – they shall be blogged very soon!

Construction photography in Colwyn Bay – courtesy of a new international client Volker Stevin.

Brief was to grab my hard hat, steel cap boots and head up there to capture the essence of the project.
To appreciate the full scale of the project – I was hoisted into the air in a steel cage. From there I could direct the crane driver to swing me out over the coastline to get some great aerial shots of the site. The new sea-front defence is quite something to behold from the air. It will eventually be a nice “stroller-friendly” promenade which is sure the transform the Colwyn Bay landscape. It’s great to be working for a nice big construction firm and there are plenty of upcoming jobs in the pipeline – including a new development in Lancaster in a couple of weeks time.

Was up nice and early to get some photos of the German Aida Blu cruise ship arriving into the Mersey on Saturday morning. There was a handful of avid “ship-spotters” lining the river waiting to catch a glimpse also. The one thing I wasn’t anticipating was the ship turning a full 180 degrees and reversing into the dock. This often comes down to the individual skipper’s preference and he had only radioed the change in that morning.
Anyway! Here’s a big ol’ panoramic from across the Mersey looking back toward the famous Liverpool City Skyline… please click on the wee thumbnail to “super-size” it…

These guys really know how to throw a party! It was all about the performance, the cocktails and the Punjabi food last night at the glamourous VIP launch of Eastzeast restaurant in Liverpool. I was there to grab a few photos for local PR firm Paver Smith who facilitated a fantastic opening night. There’s plenty more photos to come – just have to jet off to Manchester for a quick job – then i’ll be posting more this afternoon. Stay tuned!

Here’s a quick photo of a lovely sunflower, shot last month in Italy, first thing in the morning. I’ll post a few more photos from this trip to Le Marque region. But as it’s raining down and spirits may be a little low in Liverpool right now – here we go!
