Au Revoir Giant Spectacular – it’s been a special weekend of photography. Here’s a couple of photos.

Stepping off the plane from Buenos Aires – I came into Giant Spectacular ‘fray’ late in the piece – there were already photos from every conceivable street angle posted on the net. Fantastic photography I might add – from local professional photographers, sight-seers… you name it!

So it was nice to be able to hit the Mersey today to bag a few shots as the Giant Spectacular sailed gracefully out of town into the Waterloo sunset (well almost…)

In all – It’s been an incredible past couple of days and a real testament to the people of Liverpool for making it happen. These events take months of planning and massive amounts of investment. But when you see the streets lined with excited smiling faces, it all becomes worthwhile.

Liverpool, I salute you.

16 hours from Buenos Aires and an extravagant wedding day of photography later I hit the streets this morning to see what the hype was all about… and yep, you guessed it… it certainly did not fail to impress…

Liverpool streets once again came alive and embraced the spectacular… which is the Giants.

I raced around armed with a healthy dose of caffeine to stave off any would be jetlag suitors…

But racing round for a Giant girl also takes it’s toll… she’s now sleeping at Pier Head with her humble companion… the cute but feisty dog…

Only thing left to say really is (if you haven’t already) LIVERPOOL – GO HAVE A WEE LOOK!

A misty, still morning on the Mersey. The perfect setting for some photos of the HMS Liverpool‘s return. The emotional last journey will culminate in her being De-commissioned after an illustrious career in the British Navy.
She’ll be docked in Liverpool over the weekend – and I’ll be back down on Monday morning to capture her departure.

The City of Liverpool Waterpolo Team – a few photos from their recent tournament

Was great to be back at the Wavertree Sports Park to take some photos of my old Waterpolo team – Liverpool City. They’d organised an international tournament with teams from all over Europe coming to Liverpool to “play ball.”

It’s been a couple of years since I played and it was very cool to photograph the action and catch up with the lads! If I can just get my shoulder fixed, i’ll be able to join them in the water for their next tournament.

Laura White – some photos from her stunning live show at the Lowry Theatre

I was lucky enough to be invited along to photograph Laura White‘s live show to celebrate the launch of her debut album “Lyrics in my Underwear”
Set amongst the splendid grandeur of the Lowry Theatre – the show delivered on its promise. Laura White, a natural star in the making, sang songs from her debut album that has been carefully crafted over the past couple of years. With strong “hometown” support the show had an intimacy and flow that was special to watch, and a style to match. Fashion designer Spencer Lammy created various couture pieces for Laura to wear on the night. Stunning high fashion was the standard.
I have been lucky enough to photograph Laura in some smaller gigs around the country over the past couple of years. And it’s with these I have watched her perfect her craft. Saturday night however, was her chance to truly shine.

Some Corporate Portraits for the Liverpool One Team…

A perfect winter’s morning greeted us as we hit the Liverpool One outdoor shopping complex for some team portraits. The marketing team had a massive year last year with some fantastic events going on. From Gok Wan’s Fashion Runway to X Factor stars Rebecca Ferguson and Marcus Collins live in concert – there was always something happening!

We were lucky with some soft morning light. We hit a few locations to accentuate the diversity of Liverpool One.
Although clean black and white studio portraits can be very effective – I also like getting out and about and utilising the environments in which people work. It gives a nice natural and more contextual feel to the photos. Donna, the Liverpool One Marketing Director – was about to be published in an article relating to the state of retail. We went to both Peter’s Lane and Paradise Street to get some portraits that had the necessary retail “feel” to them.

Sue is a Beatles Fan. She travelled all the way from California for the John Lennon Candle Vigil in Liverpool

It’s a massive shame that her Liverpool cab-driver didn’t know where it was then!

Hey-ho…
I’d just finishing photographing the chilly outdoor vigil when I first saw Sue. I was with the ‘Creative Concern’ crew (a top draw Agency from over Manchester way) heading over to the Beatles Story for the second half of the Vigil. She was kinda distraught after being driven around Liverpool City Centre for the past hour. Good news then that the vigil continued and Sue got to boogie to Twist and Shout and numerous other Beatles tracks being belted out by the local musicians. These devoted fans turn up every year to commemorate the untimely death of John Lennon. Sue’s fingernails have photos on them from the various times she’s met Paul McCartney. Now that’s a dedicated fan!

A chilly start to the evening culminated in a nice cosy singalong with cups of tea and coffee kindly supplied by the Beatles Story…

On another note – I have 5 more sleeps till i’ll be headed back to New Zealand for Christmas

So even though the blogging has not exactly been great the past few months due to the photography going a little bit nuts – i’ll be blogging a lot more in the new year! Ciao a tutti!

Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre to open as a live music venue – some PR photos from last week…

What amazing news for the Liverpool Music scene with the re-opening of a classic theatre. It’s been renamed after the Beatle’s manager Brian Epstein. The venue will be operated by Liverpool Sound City, which will also use the venue to showcase pop culture in art and drama productions. I jumped on my bike and grabbed a few PR shots for the local press. The brief was “group shot, possibly Vanity Fair style” which always makes me laugh! But hey, I gave it a shot… with a group of 32 people from the music industry – was always going to be a challenge! If there were only 10 to 12 to photograph – it might just have worked. I also had to grab a couple of quick portraits of Dave Pichilingi, chief executive of Sound City and Wendy Simon – councillor of Liverpool. I then fired the shots straight off to the Liverpool press and they were in the paper the next day.

I look forward to an exciting future ahead for the venue and Liverpool Music!

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark play the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral – some photos from the concert

Topping off a spectacular Annual Dinner from the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce – Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark or quite simply “OMD” played the awe-inspiring Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool last Thursday night. A little bit before my time – I could still appreciate the resurrection of the classic 80′s tracks – played in an even older venue!
Taking photographs with a backdrop like the Anglican Cathedral – the zoom lens, for the most part, was kept inside the camera bag. The wide angle was the lens of choice to capture the whole ambience of the amazing interior.

X Factor Star Rebecca Ferguson sings in Liverpool on the eve of her album launch – some photos from last week’s event

As it’s been proven time after time – the best artist in the X-Factor competition doesn’t always win. One such artist – Rebecca Ferguson had a special homecoming gig in Liverpool One recently. She even spared time to have a cup of tea and a few photos with some fans nearby before the concert. Singing outside in Liverpool One the cheers of a maddening crowd soon hushed as her distinctive soul/jazz voice found its rhythm. Her daughter then came on stage and made the show that much more special. A local Liverpool lass with a rare talent and natural humility to boot.

I’m looking forward to having a listen to the whole album “Heaven” which has now been released. If the rest is as good as the singles i’ve heard already… it’s sure to be a wee gem…

Speaking of X-Factor – current finalist and Liverpool sensation Marcus Collins is doing a special show this Wednesday night at Liverpool One which i’ll be photographing. I’ll try and post some photos from that soon after!
